Candice is walking the Great Wall of China in support of Breast Cancer
Help her on her way!
In May, our employment law and relationship property partner Candice Murphy, and her mum Vivian Blake, will embark on a five-day trek on a particularly steep section of the Great Wall of China. Their aim is to raise $10,000 for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.
Candice knows she and Vivian are setting themselves a huge challenge to get themselves super-fit. They are determined to finish the walk in fine fettle and to achieve their $10,000 fundraising goal. Vivian and Candice are hugely grateful of the generous donations so far from family, friends and the Simpson Western partners and colleagues.
They are planning some fundraising events for the next couple of months to raise the balance before they leave for China on 24 May. As well as the contribution from our partners, our staff have given Candice and Vivian a helping hand by holding a Jeans Day late last year. We also have some other initiatives in the pipeline to help Candice and Vivian on their way.
“This is a cause so dear to our hearts,” says Candice. “Five years ago, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer at the very same time I was about to produce my first birth child – I already have two lovely stepsons. Mum was about to have her operation on the same day my baby was due. Thankfully, my son Nixon was born a week early! This meant that mum and I could spend that week with Nixon before her surgery – that time was so precious for us.
“What is particularly poignant, and also a fabulous milestone, is that Mum will celebrate five years of being cancer-free whilst we are walking the Great Wall of China. And Nixon turns five and is off to school!”
Candice and Vivian are walking with a group of 16 Kiwi women on this Great Wall Pink Ribbon Trek 2018. All the women are being sponsored by family, friends and colleagues to complete the walk. They are funding all their travel expenses themselves.
